FITECT™(CF3I) is an environmentally friendly special gas that replaces conventional CFCs and halon gas.

Tosoh Finechem has succeeded in establishing the world's first FITECT™(CF3I) mass production technology1 and is providing the world with high-quality products.

Main Uses

  • As CFCs and halon replacement gas (refrigerant, fire extinguishing agent, foaming agent, insulator, etching)
  • As a fluorogenic agent (introduction of CF3 group) in the synthetic development of pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals

Feature

FITECT™(CF3I) has excellent environmental characteristics and is nonflammable, making it a replacement gas for conventional CFCs and halons.

In addition, the binding energy of the C-I bond in the molecule is very small (2.4 eV), which allows for higher fire extinguishing performance than general purpose gases, low damage, highly selective etching, and even the synthesis of medical and agrochemical intermediates.

Global warming potential (GWP) 0.4

FITECT™(CF3I) has an extremely short atmospheric half-life of 0.005 years compared to previous halon and CFC gases such as Halon 1301, and is rated as having an ozone depletion potential (ODP) of 0.0.
FITECT™(CF3I) is an environmentally friendly gas with a global warming potential (GWP) of 0.4 compared to 1.0 for CO2 (Fig. 1).
