Core Technology
Halogen chemistry and organometallic chemistry are our core technologies. Tosoh Finechem has over 40 years of experience developing these technologies. Products developed have applications in a wide variety of fields, from petrochemicals (polymerization catalysts) to electronic materials, medicines and agrochemicals.

Characteristic Technology
- ◇Halogen Chemistry
- Tosoh Finechem has a wide range of synthesis technologies (halogenation and derivatization) for organic halogen compounds related to all major halogen elements (fluorine, chlorine, bromine, and iodine).
- ◇Organometallic Chemistry
- Tosoh Finechem have the technology and know-how to safely synthesize, purify, and analyze Class 3 hazardous materials (pyrophoric substances and water-restricted substances).
Aiming to Create Functional Chemicals Using Halogens and Organometallics
We accurately grasp market needs and develop products that utilize molecular design and core technology with a focus on functionality. By working together with sales, manufacturing, and research, we aim to create functional chemicals that can be the optimal solution for our customers' businesses.
We also work to develop safe and efficient manufacturing processes based on our extensive knowledge of halogen chemistry and organometallic chemistry and respond to our customers' industrialization requests and problem-solving.

Technology in Focus
-
Organometallic
Our company has the manufacturing and handling know-how of alkylaluminum compounds accumulated over many years, and has stably provided products domestically and internationally, mainly for use as polyolefin polymerization cocatalysts.
In 2021, we established Japan's first integrated production system from TMAL (trimethylaluminum) to MAO (methylaluminoxane) and are proceeding with product development tailored to customer requirements. Additionally, as an application of organometallic technology, we offer a lineup of CLESCORT®, which can be coated with a transparent metal oxide thin film that has a UV-shielding effect. In addition to promoting practical use in medical vials, etc., we are also adding new functions and developing it for various application fields. -
Tetrafluoroethylene Derivative
Tetrafluoroethylene is normally used in polymerization reactions, but we have accumulated technology to use it specifically for organic synthesis. In other words, we are developing fluoropolymer-related materials and raw materials for electronic materials, etc., based on the technology to create symmetrical and asymmetrical derivatives of tetrafluoroethylene with iodine or bromine.

CF3, -CF2- introduction and Selective Fluorination
Tosoh Finechem has the technology to introduce the exact amount of fluorine into the desired location(s), and has accumulated a wealth of technology and know-how regarding building block methodology (TFEA (trifluoroethanol), FITECT™ (CF3I)) and selective fluorination methods. TFEA is widely used as a raw material for pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals into which trifluoroethyl groups can be introduced, and in recent years, its use has also expanded as a reaction solvent to improve yield and selectivity. Applications include: extinguishing agent FIITECT™ (CF3I) is used to protect oil storage tanks, in aerospace as Freon halon replacement gas for superior environmental performance, used as a cover gas at the time of the magnesium is cast, and a source of CF3 which can directly introduce a CF3 group to organic molecules. Furthermore, we have studied an electrophilic fluorinating agent (FMR-45) derived from tetrafluoroethylene, for mono fluorination of hydroxyl group, or di-fluorination of carbonyl group via selective fluorination.

Utilization of Bromine and Chlorine Basic Raw Materials
We hold the production technology of various alkyl bromides using the hydrogen bromide (HBr) supplied from TOSOH Corporation particularly high purity technology for alkyl bromide isomers required in applications such as pharmaceuticals. Additional application areas include sites for polymers, preparation of latex for water based paints (by incorporating Spinomar NaSS® into the polymer chain) resulting in superior dispersibility.
